This week (17-23 Nov 2014) is Antibiotic Awareness Week in Australia - part of a global initiative to raise awareness of antibiotic resistance and promote the responsible use of antibiotics. But it seems many countries are ignoring warnings and Australia is high on the list.

Medicine is smack bang up against a major problem caused by the rise and rise of bacteria becoming insensitive to known antibiotics.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr Margaret Chan, “antimicrobial resistance is not a future threat looming on the horizon. It is here, right now, and the consequences are devastating.”
