The pandemic has reinforced the importance of nutrient intake for an effectively functioning immune system - but has the barrage of evidence and associated “data fatigue”, made us overlook other supplements equally as effective – namely herbs?
A lot of warranted attention has been on important micronutrients, including vitamins A, C, D, B6, B9, and B12, copper, iron, selenium, and zinc, due to their contribution to the modulation of the immune system in various ways – including, but not limited to, production and activity of antimicrobial proteins, phagocytosis, recovery from inflammation, and antibody production.1 Herbal medicines have shown to be just as promising in many of the same ways, prompting us to take a deep-dive into the benefits of herbs for immunity.
